Web Hosting

A website (and usually the email that goes with it) needs a place to live on a machine that is connected to the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is usually not your home or office computer, but a specialised computer called a server. The act of storing your website and email on this server is called "hosting", and is often called "web hosting" even though email hosting is also usually implied. The company that hosts your website and email is often called a number of different things, including: hosting provider; Internet hosting provider (IHP); Internet presence provider (IPP); or just "the host".
